Manchester United End Six-Year Goal Drought at Anfield with Lisandro Martínez’s Stunning Strike

Manchester United finally broke their six-year scoring dry spell at Anfield as Lisandro Martínez delivered a sensational goal, becoming the first Red Devils player to score at Liverpool’s fortress since December 2018 under Jose Mourinho.

Despite entering the match as underdogs, Ruben Amorim’s United showed grit and determination. The first half saw Rasmus Hojlund come close to breaking the deadlock, but the scoreline remained goalless at halftime. Minutes into the second half, Martínez took charge.

Charging forward to press Liverpool’s midfield, Martínez helped regain possession and continued his run. A perfectly timed pass from Bruno Fernandes set Martínez up one-on-one with Liverpool’s goalkeeper, and the Argentine defender unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner, igniting celebrations among United fans.

The last time a United player scored at Anfield was Jesse Lingard in 2018 during a 3-1 defeat. That team, featuring stars like Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic, marked the end of an era as Lingard now plays for FC Seoul in the K League 1.

Martínez’s goal briefly handed Manchester United the lead, but Liverpool responded quickly. Cody Gakpo dazzled past Matthijs de Ligt and curled an exquisite strike into the top corner, leveling the match and setting the stage for an electrifying final 30 minutes.
