Man Utd Confident in New Kobbie Mainoo Deal Amid Chelsea Interest and Contract Talks

Manchester United remain optimistic about securing a long-term deal with Kobbie Mainoo, whose current contract runs until 2027. Talks are underway to significantly increase Mainoo’s current £20,000-a-week salary to reflect his growing value to the squad. Reports suggest his representatives are pushing for a £200,000-a-week package, which would position the 19-year-old midfielder among United’s top five earners.

United’s highest earners currently include Casemiro (£350,000-a-week), Marcus Rashford (£325,000), Bruno Fernandes (£300,000), and Mason Mount (£250,000). While United are confident of reaching a compromise, Chelsea is closely monitoring the situation, positioning themselves as potential suitors if contract talks falter.

Despite financial constraints linked to Profit and Sustainability Rules, United are reluctant to part with the academy graduate, who has been at the club since the age of six. Manager Ruben Amorim sees Mainoo as a key player, and it’s believed only an offer exceeding £70 million would prompt the club to consider selling.

Mainoo has made 52 appearances for United, contributing five goals and an assist, becoming a regular starter in the past 18 months. While contract discussions began last season, progress has been slow, coinciding with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting measures at the club. Ratcliffe’s efforts include cutting 250 jobs, ending Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassadorial role, and considering player sales to address a £312.9 million pre-tax loss over the past three seasons.

Amid tightened budgets, Amorim has been told to manage resources carefully. United’s €1.3 billion (£1.08 billion) net spend since 2015 remains the highest in world football, highlighting the need for financial prudence moving forward.
