Manchester United Aim to Sell Marcus Rashford Ahead of January Transfer Window

Manchester United are actively seeking potential buyers for Marcus Rashford as they prepare for the January transfer window. The club is under pressure to meet financial fair play (FFP) regulations and views Rashford as a key asset to balance the books.

Since taking over from Erik ten Hag, new manager Ruben Amorim has been working to strengthen the squad. However, with United’s recent spending of over £100 million on Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirzkee, selling players like Rashford is crucial to generating funds for reinvestment.

Rashford, an academy graduate, holds significant value under FFP profit and sustainability rules. Despite scoring three goals in five games since Amorim’s arrival and an impressive 30-goal season in 2022/23, United has reportedly set a reduced asking price of £40 million for the 27-year-old. This figure is a stark drop from the £100 million valuation after his stellar campaign in 2023.

The club faces challenges in offloading Rashford due to his high wages, reportedly around £325,000 per week, under a contract that runs until June 2028. Few clubs can meet these financial demands, limiting the pool of potential buyers. While Paris Saint-Germain has previously expressed interest, United remains cautious about securing a deal.

Rashford, meanwhile, is adapting to Amorim’s tactical approach, contributing seven goals and three assists in 23 appearances this season. Speaking about his experience, Rashford shared his optimism, praising the manager’s positive influence and the club’s vibrant atmosphere.

United will next face Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday, followed by a high-stakes Manchester derby on Sunday. With the team sitting 13th in the Premier League and eight points off the top four, Amorim has significant work ahead to turn the season around.
