Nico González Reveals How His Father Helped Shape His Dream Move to Manchester City

Manchester City’s latest signing, Nico González, has shared how his transfer to the Etihad was not only a personal milestone but also a dream come true for his father. The £50 million signing from FC Porto was part of City’s major January spending spree, which saw them invest £180 million to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s squad.

González, who honed his skills at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy before excelling at FC Porto, revealed that his father, Fran González, played a crucial role in influencing his decision. Having previously worked as an Under-18 coach at Manchester City, Fran always saw the club as the perfect environment for his son’s growth and development.

Speaking to City’s official website, González said:
“My father was here at City for two years, and he always recommended that if I ever got the chance, I should come. He always spoke so highly of Manchester, the club, and the people. He told me I would enjoy it here and be very happy.”

The 22-year-old midfielder has been a standout performer in the Portuguese Primeira Liga this season, registering five goals and three assists in 17 starts. His decision to join City was also heavily influenced by the opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola.

“When the best team of the last 10 years wants you, you don’t have any other option but to say yes. Playing under Pep Guardiola will be incredible. Everyone I’ve spoken to about him speaks so highly, and I believe he can help me reach my full potential and become the best version of myself.”

With González now part of City’s midfield arsenal, fans will be eager to see how he adapts to the Premier League and contributes to Guardiola’s relentless pursuit of success.
