Jack Butland Returns for Rangers to Face Former Club Manchester United After Recovery from Internal Bleed

Jack Butland marked his triumphant return to the Rangers lineup by facing his former club, Manchester United, in a highly anticipated Europa League match at Old Trafford. This was Butland’s first appearance against United since departing the club in 2023.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper has been sidelined for weeks due to a severe health scare. On New Year’s Day, Butland was rushed to the hospital after suffering an internal bleed in his thigh. Following overnight observation, he was discharged the next day.

Butland resumed training last week, equipped with protective padding on his right thigh. Under the careful supervision of the Rangers medical team, he was declared fit to play in the crucial fixture.

Rangers entered the match determined to secure their spot in the next phase of the Europa League. Despite starting the day in an automatic qualification position, results elsewhere—specifically wins for Tottenham and FCSB—saw them momentarily drop out of contention.

Manchester United, who remain undefeated in the competition this season, also felt the pressure after being overtaken in the group standings. The last European outing for Rangers ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Tottenham at Ibrox, setting the stage for this must-win encounter.
