Hansi Flick Names Wojciech Szczesny as Starting Goalkeeper for Supercup Final Against Real Madrid

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has clarified Wojciech Szczesny’s role ahead of the Spanish Supercup final. The decision comes after Inaki Pena was dropped for tardiness at a team session, a move consistent with Flick’s no-nonsense approach to discipline.

Szczesny, who made his club debut in Barcelona’s 2-0 semifinal win over Athletic Club, has now been chosen to start in the final against Real Madrid in Jeddah. However, Flick emphasized this decision is only for the Supercup and not indicative of future plans.

“We are in the Supercup final, and Szczesny will remain in goal for this competition, but this is not a long-term decision,” Flick stated in pre-game comments to Mundo Deportivo.

While Pena has been the clear first-choice goalkeeper for most of the season, this incident serves as a warning about maintaining professionalism. Barcelona, chasing four titles in 2025, will likely rely on Pena for the remainder of the campaign.
