Fernandes Hails Bayindir’s Penalty Heroics as Manchester United Secure Crucial Point

Bruno Fernandes praised Altay Bayindir as “top class” following the Manchester United goalkeeper’s outstanding penalty heroics against Arsenal.

Bayindir, a Turkish international signed from Fenerbahce in September 2023, has been serving as a backup to Andre Onana. Making only his fifth competitive appearance for the Red Devils, the shot-stopper seized his moment in the spotlight. Bayindir saved Martin Odegaard’s second-half penalty and thwarted Kai Havertz during the shootout, helping Manchester United secure a hard-fought 1-1 draw and a 5-3 shootout victory at the Emirates Stadium.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was effusive in his praise.
“It’s a big moment for him—saving the penalty and making another crucial save,” Fernandes told BBC Sport. “We’re really happy for him. It’s tough to be a second-choice goalkeeper, but he came here to play. Whenever he gets his chance, he shows his quality. He’s top class in training and deserves this moment.”

Bayindir also reflected on the importance of staying prepared and making the most of opportunities.
“I just want to help my team,” Bayindir said. “I work hard every day and stay patient. If you’re a Manchester United player, you have to be ready every minute, every second. I’m here to contribute to this great club.”

The goalkeeper also praised manager Ruben Amorim, who has fostered strong relationships with the players.
“We love him. He always gives his best and trusts us, just as we trust him. We’re all fighting together.”
