Cassano Criticizes AC Milan Owner Cardinale’s Leadership Approach

Former footballer Antonio Cassano has taken aim at AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale for his perceived lack of involvement in the day-to-day operations of the club, accusing him of prioritizing personal interests over Milan’s legacy.
Speaking on Viva el Futbol, Cassano expressed frustration at Cardinale’s detached management style. He stated, “Milan does not belong to you; it belongs to the fans. Someone needs to explain this to him back in America. Milan is not just any team; it is one of the most iconic football clubs in the world. Even in tough times, Milan should be competing to win titles.”
Cassano criticized Cardinale’s focus on financial growth, saying, “If his primary goal is to increase the club’s valuation to $5 billion, $6 billion, or $10 billion for personal gain, then he’s missing the point. Milan is not just a business venture.”
He further highlighted the owner’s absence, adding, “You’re in America, managing other interests like the Boston Celtics or watching baseball, while Milan deserves serious attention. The fans are the heart of this club, and they deserve better. Milan is not just a business project; it is a historic institution.”
Cassano also questioned the competence of Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani, claiming, “Professionals who truly understand Milan’s legacy should be in charge. Furlani doesn’t even seem to grasp the significance of the club’s history or its legends.”
Cassano concluded by accusing Cardinale of incompetence, stating, “The way you’re managing and treating this club shows you lack the capability to lead a club of Milan’s stature.
