Arsenal Recall Charles Sagoe Jr from Loan as January Fixtures Loom Amid Bukayo Saka Injury
Arsenal has brought back young winger Charles Sagoe Jr from his loan spell at Shrewsbury Town due to a lack of playing time. Despite his return, manager Mikel Arteta is unlikely to include the 20-year-old in the Gunners’ congested January schedule, even though he plays in the same position as the injured Bukayo Saka.
Sagoe Jr made five starts and eight substitute appearances for Shrewsbury in League One but failed to register a goal or assist. His opportunities diminished further under new manager Gareth Ainsworth, as the club battles relegation.
With Arsenal facing nine fixtures in January across four competitions, Sagoe Jr’s involvement would prevent him from being loaned out again due to FIFA regulations prohibiting players from representing three clubs in one season.
Shrewsbury Town confirmed the winger’s departure, thanking him for his contributions over the past five months and wishing him success in the future.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s recent 2-2 draw at Brighton highlighted their challenges with a depleted squad. Defender Riccardo Calafiori expressed optimism, saying, “It’s too early to talk about the title race. We need to focus on the next game and dominate.”
The Gunners host Newcastle in the Carabao Cup semi-final and Manchester United in the FA Cup third round as they aim to navigate a demanding month while coping with injuries to key players.
