Arsenal and Manchester United Face Fines and Potential FA Charges After Penalty Controversy
Manchester United Set for £75,000 Fine
Manchester United are expected to receive a £75,000 fine following their FA Cup victory over Arsenal, marking their third breach of disciplinary rules this season for receiving six or more yellow cards in a match. This fine brings United’s total tally for similar offenses to £150,000.
During the heated encounter, Diogo Dalot was sent off for a second yellow card, while Lisandro Martinez, Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Harry Maguire, and a member of the United coaching staff also received cautions.
FA to Investigate Post-Penalty Melee
Tensions escalated following Arsenal’s controversial second-half penalty decision. The melee involved players from both sides, with Maguire reportedly accusing Kai Havertz of simulation after winning the penalty. Referee Andy Madley booked several players but lacked VAR assistance to review the incident further.
United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir saved Martin Odegaard’s penalty, which sparked a debate online, with United’s official social media account declaring “justice” was served.
Possible Additional Fines for Both Clubs
The Football Association is awaiting Madley’s report before determining whether to charge Arsenal and Manchester United with failing to control their players during the altercation. If charged, both clubs could face additional significant fines.
Managerial Reactions
United manager Ruben Amorim commented on the incident, stating, “The players told me it was not a penalty, but let’s move on. We are becoming more resilient and aggressive. Today was our day, and the fans were incredible.”
