Ruben Amorim Dismisses Rashford Saga as Distraction for Manchester United

Ruben Amorim remains firm in his belief that Marcus Rashford’s absence is not a distraction for Manchester United. The head coach also revealed he hasn’t directly addressed Rashford’s recent comments about seeking a “new challenge.”
Rashford’s Continued Absence
The England international was left out of United’s squad for the third consecutive match on Sunday, as the Red Devils suffered a humbling 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford. Despite his absence, Rashford’s contribution to the club is undeniable. Since his Premier League debut, he has scored 87 goals and provided 40 assists, making him United’s leader in overall goal contributions (147).
However, his recent form has been underwhelming. Since the start of last season, Rashford has managed just 11 goals in 48 league appearances, drawing criticism for his performances under former boss Erik ten Hag.
Amorim’s Approach
Amorim has not discussed Rashford’s interview with Henry Winter, in which the forward expressed a desire for a new challenge, but he is resolute in his decisions regarding the player.
“When I feel that it is the right moment, I will change something. Until then, I will continue to think about what is best for the team,” Amorim explained.
“I speak with him every day, not about the interview but about the performance. It’s my decision. He wants to play and is trying, but it’s only my decision.
“I’m trying to do things my way. It’s the only way I know, and I will not lose myself. I know what I’m doing.”
No Distractions at Old Trafford
Amorim dismissed the idea that Rashford’s situation could distract the squad:
“It’s not a distraction for me or the players. Everyone sees what happens in training every day. That’s the key. For the media and outsiders, I can’t control their focus, but it doesn’t concern me.”
The coach emphasized clarity in his communication, ensuring his expectations are understood throughout the squad:
“Everyone at Carrington knows my message and what I want from Marcus and the team. For us, it’s not a distraction—maybe for the media, but that’s not my concern.”
Wolves Await on Boxing Day
Rashford is likely to miss Manchester United’s Boxing Day fixture against Wolves. The Red Devils have an impressive record against Wolves, winning seven of their last eight league meetings. However, Wolves have been formidable in Boxing Day fixtures, remaining unbeaten in their last seven (five wins, two draws).
